I am excited about the possibility of representing our community as a part of the Fort Lauderdale City Commission. I am now prepared to give back to the very same community that I was born into. I am from our community and I am for our community.
I am married to the former Yvette Culver and we have a son, Ethan Joshua.
My service to our community began with my youth involvement with the Fort Lauderdale Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Youth Council, serving in various positions, including president. As president, I strategically planned with several CEO’s from various corporations including FPL and Bellsouth for the Youth Entrepreneurship Banquet. As president, I continued our annual Christmas Toy Giveaway that provided toys to underprivileged children in our community.
I am a graduate of the University of Florida (UF) in Gainesville, FL. While a student at UF I served as a resident assistant (RA) and was a member of Florida Blue Key. I was elected Vice President of Student Government, where I fought to have our voice heard. While at the university I also chartered the (NPHC) National Pan-Hellenic Council Chapter.
After graduation I returned to our community, which provided me with the best education, where I learned the true meaning of “to whom much is given, much is required.”
My political involvement expanded through volunteer service on various campaigns and positions to serve the community at large. I was elected treasurer of Broward Young Democrats, volunteered for the re-election of Congressman Alcee Hastings; volunteered for John Kerry for President, volunteered for former State Representative Chris Smith, and Alain Jean for State Representative.
My community involvement continued as an former Executive Board Member for the Fort Lauderdale Branch of NAACP, co- chair for Friends of ACT-SO; President of the Fort Lauderdale Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity for three consecutive terms, board member of Broward County Living Wage Advisory Board, former board member of Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Board, former member of the Marine Advisory Board. I also worked with several youth mentorship programs through Friends of ACT-SO and Kappa Alpha Psi, Kappa League Programs.
I continued my community involvement by organizing a public meeting for Homeowner’s Insurance held at the African-American Research Library as an outreach and educational tool leading up to our hurricane season.
I have participated in Broward Days to assist with the promotion of legislation that affects our community, realizing the importance of public safety for our streets.
I am currently self- employed in the insurance industry and own my own business, DuBose Ventures. I believe that people that love their community serve their community and can change it for the better.
